There are three components to this assessment.
- Attendance at your practicum placement.
- Assessment of the learning outcomes of the practicum and key teaching tasks (in practice with supporting documentation) on practicum by your associate teacher and a visiting academic staff member.
- Submission of your practicum completion form online.
Assessment information
Ongoing formative feedback from your associate teacher and an academic staff member will occur throughout your practicum placement as you work towards demonstrating the learning outcomes and key teaching tasks in your practicum setting.
Final assessment of all components will take place at an assessment visit near the end of your practicum and will include:
- observed practice
- triadic discussion between you, your associate teacher and a visiting academic staff member
Detailed information and support for each of these elements is provided in your practicum course.
Your academic staff member and your associate teacher will complete a summative report giving you feedback on your assessment.
When your practicum is complete submit the practicum completion form online under Practicum Assessment 1. This will record your final result for the practicum assessment.
Your academic staff member will take all elements of your practicum into account and is responsible for the overall assessment of your practicum.

Practicum Assessment Tasks (Practicum 1)
This assessment is aligned with the learning outcomes of this practicum. The assessment tasks will support you to focus your efforts, collect evidence of your learning and progressively demonstrate the Key Teaching Tasks and Our Code, Our Standards/Ngā Tikanga Matatika, Ngā Paerewa (in a supported environment).
Work on these tasks during your practicum placement. Information and resources in your online course will support you with this assessment. Share your progress with your associate teacher and your academic staff member, who will provide advice, support and feedback throughout your placement.
The evidence you gather during these tasks will also be useful for Assessment2.
Your academic staff member will want to check on your progress on the assessment tasks at the mid-point contact and will review your completed task documentation and reflection during the assessment visit at the end of your practicum.
